PTFE TapePTFE Thread Sealant Tape (also known as PTFE tape or plumber's tape) is a polytetrafluoroethylene film (PTFE) for use in sealing pipe threads. The tape was sold cut with a certain width and wound on the coil, making it easy to wind around the pipe thread. It is also known as the generic trademark Teflon tape; while Teflon is in fact identical to PTFE, Chemours (trademark holder) considers this use wrong, especially since they no longer produce Teflon in cassette form. The ribbon tape seal seal allows for deeper seating of the yarn, and it helps prevent the thread from seizing it while it is opening the lid. The tape also serves as a deformable filler and screw lubricant, helping to seal the joints without hardening or making them harder to tighten, and instead making them easier to tighten.
